Born in the capital of “The Land that God Made out of Anger,” Henning started his ranching career on his third birthday, with two donkeys named B and P. Since then, growing up helping his father run his livestock-operation has led to his first love irrevocably becoming anything and everything that resembled an animal or plant. Having had quite a tough time throughout school pinpointing exactly what he wanted to do one day; he had always been sure that nature would form an integral part of it.

Throughout his schooling career, Henning made the most of his sport, leadership, and academic gifts, to pave a way to a place where he would one day have the opportunity to live out all his wildest dreams, without compromise. Today he is doing just that, having the time of his life studying a B.Sc. in Restoration Ecology, with a minor in B.A. German Language, and as many agricultural electives as he can muster, at Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA.

Whenever he is not occupied with studies, he is the acting PRO officer for the CSU German Club, the Community Outreach Leader for an inter-denominational non-profit campus ministry called Cru, and on the officer board for the CSU Society for Ecological Restoration Rocky Mountain Student Chapter. He works a variety of seasonal jobs when he gets the chance, ranging from teaching students from underserved backgrounds how to fly drones, to helping with doctoral research in soil nutrient cycling. He also volunteers on ranches and organic farms when he can, and does mission trips all around the US on the rare occasion that time allows.

If you can’t find him between classes and the library, he’s most probably on a train heading to Oklahoma for the weekend, swimming in a lake in Canada, or repotting a bonsai while researching graduate schools. All this when he’s not indulging in his new favorite activity of course — driving his neighbors crazy playing Alan Jackson’s “I still like Bologna” on guitar, sitting on his rooftop at sunset. He likes to think he’s just doing his part in making this world a bit more of a livable place.

“He also believes

that the different hopes and dreams

we all have for this world,

can’t possibly be irreconcilable,

or too far apart—

if they can all fit,

inside of our hearts.”
